Healthy Back Gardening Tips
Healthy Back Gardening Tips
Here are some tips for keeping your back healthy while enjoying your garden:
1. See your chiropractor first. Making sure that you do not have any spinal misalignments before you do repetitive bending, lifting and twisting, can save you a more serious injury.
2. If it's your sport, train for it. If you are a serious gardeninger and you live in the north, you can spend about 3-4 months in your activity- making things beautiful. During the other 8 months, you should be doing exercises and keeping yourself fit.
3. Get help. They'll complain, but they'll probably get over it.
4. Stay hydrated. Really. Stay hydrated. It helps prevent muscle spasms and fatigue.
5. Take frequent breaks. Gardening is a lot of bending forward at the waist. Take frequent breaks to lieon your back and bring your knees to your chest to stretch. You can do some backward bending, too. The delphiniums won't mind.
6. Wear a sacral belt. It helps stabilize the pelvis and prevent the lower back joints from jamming. Yes, we have them in the clinic. Ask your doctor if it would be helpful for you.

They are simple, inexpensive, very helpful and don't get hot. (very important)
7. Change positions frequently.
8. Remember to stop and smell the roses. I t is what life is all about!
